PILE

PILE is such an important word re: Carpets as NAP is re: LEATHER and SUEDE. Retaining the Nap of Suede is important for the look of Suede and before cleaning Suede it helps to restore its Nap if it is lost. Likewise, it is known the regular vacuuming helps the retention of the pile in the carpet.

These are of course technical notes. But I think that as this blog takes shape, some technical notes as well as some design ideas will be important. In simple terms, the yarns 'stand up' in a uniform formation on a backing and this is the Pile. There is a term called the Carpet Pile Height which denotes in inches or millimeters how much these yarns or strands stand above the backing.

I have heard terms like Deep Pile and that is why I thought it was important to get an understanding of what Pile is.

For Deep Pile Carpets are certain types of carpets that seem to be more suited towards certain types of interiors.
